At the Myllylä farm, there has always been a bustling atmosphere in the center of the village of Venejoki. As a state customs mill, people have gathered here for grain milling from as far away as Polvijärvi. While waiting, horses have been watered at the calm waters, village news has been exchanged, and stories have been told in the mill’s common room under the watchful eye of the strong hostess.

During wartime, a separate room was built in the common room for the captain, and Sunday school was held there with sheep markings. In later years, the house housed the village’s first electricity produced by the mill and the only telephone. There are stories of a few children even receiving help for their births in the former smoke sauna. By the river, laundry has been washed, tears shed for the lost, logs floated, gemstones polished, and various inventions brought to life. At the mill, people have met one another through the different twists of life, both in the past and in the future.
